By Four members of Uganda’s national boxing team have been reported missing in Scotland after the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The missing athletes have been identified as Emily Nakalema, Angel Katushabe, Ibrahim Khemis and team captain Nuhu Batte. They failed to travel back to Uganda with the rest of the delegation after the Games ended.
Police in Scotland has confirmed it is investigating their disappearance.
Reports indicate the boxers may be planning to seek asylum in the United Kingdom, with one athlete anonymously telling media they hoped to pursue a boxing career where training facilities and opportunities are better.
Uganda’s team manager, Godwin Kayangwe, said the athletes left the team without permission and expressed hope they would return before their visas expire in October.
He said they had contacted officials to say they would return.
The incident is the latest in a series of cases involving Ugandan athletes disappearing during major international sporting events, with similar incidents reported after previous Commonwealth games.
