Lattif Madoi | A Fashionista Rooted in African Culture

At the heart of Sir Lattif Madoi’s work is a deep commitment to preserving and promoting African identity through fashion. With each stitch, he tells a story of heritage, resilience, and creativity. Madoi’s designs don’t just clothe the body; they celebrate African culture and its place on the global stage.

As the founder of Latif Designz Fashion Solutions and Latif Academy Talent School, Madoi has created platforms that not only showcase African design but also train the next generation of creators. His academy, accredited by the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) under Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports, has become a breeding ground for young talent across East Africa.

Designer, educator, performer

Madoi’s influence stretches far beyond the borders of Uganda. Over the years, he has taught, showcased, and performed in over 15 countries, including France, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, South Africa, Niger, Rwanda, Congo Brazzaville, Kenya, and Tanzania, as well as across more than 10 U.S. states.

He merges fashion with performance, often designing garments live on stage in record time—captivating audiences with the spontaneity and energy of his creative process.

Fashion feats that made history

Madoi is not just a designer—he’s a record-setter. In 2012, he set a jaw-dropping record in Norway by crafting 10 dresses in just 23 minutes, an act that earned him the moniker “Afro Fashion Magician” by BBC News Africa.

But perhaps his most daring achievement was becoming the first person to sew on a flying plane, blending art with adventure in a performance that went viral and even caught the attention of Google.

Dressing icons

Madoi’s designs have adorned some of the biggest names in global music. His clients include reggae and Afrobeat royalty such as: Lucky Dube, UB40’s Ali Campbell, Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine, whose fans embraced Madoi’s now-iconic red overalls, Jamaican stars like Busy Signal, Anthony B, Chronixx, Morgan Heritage, and Turbulence the Future.

Whether it’s concert wear, statement pieces, or performance costumes, Madoi’s work stands out for its authenticity, boldness, and cultural storytelling.

Recognition

Madoi’s work has earned him prestigious honors, including:

Most Exceptional Talented Person – DMV, USA (2018)

Winner, Africa Fashion Competition – Niamey, Niger (2007)

He continues to receive invitations to headline fashion shows, lead masterclasses, and collaborate with international brands and cultural institutions.

Inspiring the next generation

Through Latif Academy Talent School, Madoi is not only training students in fashion design but also mentoring them in entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-expression. Many of his former students have gone on to launch their own labels, empowered by the belief that African fashion deserves a seat at the global table.

Enduring legacy

Sir Lattif Madoi is more than a designer, he is a cultural ambassador, a teacher, and a visionary who has transformed fashion into a tool for storytelling and empowerment.

As he continues to push boundaries and inspire creatives worldwide, Madoi’s journey is stitched with purpose, pride, and passion for Africa.
