Meet Hamza Bunnya – Boeing Commercial Marketing Director for Africa and Middle East

Hamza Bunnya’s rise from a student at King’s College Budo to Regional Marketing Director at Boeing reads like a blueprint for modern African leadership.

He was one of the awardees during the 2025 December Homecoming Event organised by the Uganda Diaspora Network, alongside other distinguished honorees.

With nearly 20 years of experience, Hamza began his Boeing journey as an engineer, mastering the technical backbone of aviation. His curiosity and strategic mind pushed him into Product Marketing and Airline Economics, where he advised airlines across Japan, China, Europe, and Africa on how to cut costs, modernise fleets, and stay competitive in a fast-changing industry.

Today, he leads Boeing’s marketing strategy across Africa, with a particular emphasis on East Africa and a strong focus on Ethiopia, where he continues to drive airline partnerships, market growth, and long-term strategic positioning. He played a key role in Ethiopian Airlines’ record-breaking order of up to 67 Boeing jets, the largest Boeing purchase in African aviation history, and supported the airline’s landmark commitment to the 777-9.

Yet even with a global portfolio, Hamza remains deeply connected to Uganda. He champions aviation ecosystem development, talent growth, and strategic partnerships that can boost national capacity and open doors for young professionals.

Based in the Seattle area, he is also an active force in the immigrant community, mentoring aspiring leaders and supporting cultural and empowerment initiatives. His greatest inspiration is his wife and two children, who keep him grounded and driven.

Rooted in culture, community, and a passion for engineering, Hamza Bunnya is helping shape the future of African aviation, while inspiring the next generation to dream boldly and aim higher.
