Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a member of the Tooro royal family, has been named as the successor to the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Kijanangoma is a journalist, news anchor and editor at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC). He is among members of the Babiito royal clan who have previously been identified as eligible to ascend the Tooro throne.

A will attributed to Rukidi III, which has been circulating online, names Christopher Paul Kijanangoma among the princes in the succession line. The document places Christopher after George Desmond Mugenyi and before Stephen Edgar Paul Karamagi, subject to the conditions set out in the will.
Edward will now undergo the traditional processes required before his enthronement as the next Omukama of Tooro.
Oyo, who became king at the age of three in 1995, died on August 27, 2026, aged 34. He is due to be laid to rest on September 12.
