Uganda LOC Clarifies Security and Ticketing Ahead of CHAN Quarter-Final – Uganda vs Senegal

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for CHAN-2024 has moved to reassure fans ahead of the nail biting Senegal 🇸🇳 vs Uganda 🇺🇬 quarterfinal encounter, at Namboole Stadium, following social media claims of violence and confusion over ticketing.

Uganda faces Senegal in the quarter-final on Saturday, 23 August 2025 at 5:00 p.m at Mandela National Stadium and 10:00am New York time for those in the Northern Hemisphere.

The LOC said reports of robberies and violence after Uganda’s 3–3 draw with South Africa on 18 August were “unfounded and misleading,” citing a Uganda Police statement dismissing the allegations. Fans were urged to report any credible incidents to police, but authorities emphasized that a robust joint security plan is in place for stadium exits and routes.

The committee also condemned the throwing of bottles and cups at South African players during the match, warning that such acts violate the National Sports Act, 2023, and could result in fines of up to UGX 9.6 million, jail time of up to 10 years, or stadium bans. Fans under the influence of alcohol or behaving aggressively will be denied entry.

On ticketing, the LOC reminded the public that all sales are handled exclusively online by CAF, with strict measures—such as a three-ticket purchase limit and virtual queuing—introduced to prevent fraud and system overload. Match Day Six tickets sold out quickly due to demand exceeding stadium capacity fourfold.

The LOC warned against buying tickets from unauthorized sources, stressing that fake or duplicate tickets could lead to criminal charges under the National Sports Act. Victims of fraud were encouraged to report cases to police.
