DFW Community in Texas Celebrates Kabaka’s Birthday Marathon

The DFW community, under the leadership of Kamukamu, a cultural association based in Dallas, rallied both the young and old in a spirited marathon in commemoration of the 71st birthday of His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II at the Chisholm Recreation Center in Hurst, Texas. The vibrant gathering drew participants from across the DFW metroplex, with representation from various regions including members of the royal families of Tooro and Busoga. Held under the theme “Promoting Health Awareness, HIV/AIDS Prevention & The Protection Of The Girl Child,” the event blended purpose with celebration, attracting notable figures such as UNAA president Lambert Etibot, UAA-DFW president Daniel Engole, Kamukamu chairman Mathias Kyobe, Aba’Babaka ba Kabaka, Princess Jackie Nakalema, Dr. Frank Sentamu, Rev. Joseph Kamugisha, among others.

The colorful occasion was further graced by the presence of Dr. Jan Mukiibi, visiting from London, who emphasized the importance of preserving native languages among children in the diaspora. She noted that while English was encouraged outside the home, speaking Luganda within the household helped instill respect for Buganda culture and identity. Guests were treated to delicious home-cooked Ugandan meals prepared by the Kamukamu committee and friends of the association, alongside lively entertainment from DJ Shemmy Patrick Lumala, creating a warm, communal atmosphere rooted in culture and connection.

At the same time, the world-renowned London Marathon taking place across the globe, brought together elite athletes in a historic and fiercely competitive race. Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo delivered a strong performance, finishing third with an impressive time, while Joshua Cheptegei also featured prominently among the elite field. Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha secured second place, and all three front-runners finished under the two-hour mark.

Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe ultimately stole the spotlight, winning the London Marathon in unprecedented fashion. He became the first athlete to run a sub-two-hour marathon in an official race, finishing in 1:59:30. In doing so, he not only claimed victory but also broke the world record, delivering a performance that redefined the limits of human endurance on the global stage.

Sawe was wearing the newly released Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, an ultra-lightweight ($500) racing shoe that weighed less than 100 grams. Shares in Adidas (ADDYY) surged on April 27, 2026, following a historic performance.
