President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was on Tuesday sworn in for an unprecedented 7th term in office, further cementing his place among Africa’s longest-serving leaders.
By the end of the current term, Museveni will have spent nearly 45 years in power since taking office in 1986.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has declared that his new term in office will be one of “no sleep,” signaling a renewed crackdown on corruption and inefficiency as he outlined his government’s priorities during his swearing-in speech.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, Museveni said corruption remains one of the biggest obstacles to Uganda’s progress and warned that leaders and public servants frustrating service delivery would face tougher action.
The President used his address to reaffirm his commitment to wealth creation, industrialization, and job creation, urging Ugandans to embrace government programmes aimed at increasing household incomes and reducing poverty.

The President additionally pledged continued investment in science, technology, youth empowerment and improved service delivery. In fact, on the eve of the swearing-in ceremony, Ugandans were treated to a spectacular drone light display that illuminated the night sky in a first-of-its-kind artistic showcase ahead of the inauguration. The synchronized drones created symbolic images and messages in the sky, with many Ugandans glued to television screens and others gathering outdoors to witness the innovation firsthand. The display quickly drew widespread attention on social media, with many describing it as a creative and modern addition to the inauguration celebrations.

On the economy, he highlighted agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, and value addition as critical sectors that will drive Uganda toward high middle-income status. He further called for stronger regional integration and African trade cooperation to expand markets and investment opportunities.
Several African heads of state, diplomats, religious leaders, and government officials attended the inauguration ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
