By Uganda Airlines has reached another defining milestone in its journey, earning a warm welcome into the Boeing family following an order for eight new-generation aircraft that will significantly expand the national carrier’s fleet and strengthen its ambitions to become one of Africa’s leading airlines.
In an announcement shared during the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow (FIA 2026), Boeing confirmed that Uganda Airlines will acquire four Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and four Boeing 787 Dreamliners, marking one of the airline’s most ambitious fleet expansion plans since its revival in 2019.
“We’re welcoming Uganda Airlines to the Boeing family,” Boeing announced, celebrating a partnership expected to reshape the airline’s future and enhance connectivity across Africa and beyond.
The order reflects Uganda Airlines’ growing confidence in the future of aviation and the increasing demand for travel connecting East Africa to the Middle East, Asia and Europe. The new aircraft will complement the airline’s existing fleet while providing greater flexibility to serve both regional and long-haul destinations.
The Boeing 737 MAX is renowned for its fuel efficiency and lower operating costs, making it ideal for regional and medium-haul routes. Meanwhile, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is among the world’s most advanced wide-body aircraft, offering longer range, improved passenger comfort and significantly reduced fuel consumption.
For Uganda Airlines, the investment signals more than fleet expansion. It represents a strategic commitment to positioning Entebbe as a regional aviation hub while supporting tourism, trade, investment and business travel.
The acquisition comes at a time when African aviation is experiencing renewed growth, with airlines modernising fleets to meet rising passenger demand and improve operational efficiency. Fuel-efficient aircraft also align with the industry’s broader sustainability goals by reducing emissions and operating costs.
Since its relaunch, Uganda Airlines has steadily expanded its route network across Africa while establishing direct international connections. The addition of the Boeing fleet is expected to unlock new destinations and strengthen existing routes, enabling the airline to compete more effectively in both regional and international markets.
